Starting our Freewheeling Trip

Today we started our day early taking a long walk down to the farm and fish market in the Guz section of Dubrovnik, where we bought greens and fruit for our lunch. Then back to the Hotel Tirena for an amazing breakfast spread. Especially nice for your carnivores.

Our guides, Ursula and Ziva picked us up just before noon and we started on the organized portion of our trip.

We backtracked a bit from Dubrovnik ultimately taking a ferry from Orebic to Domince on the island of Korcula. We have a lovely room looking over the bay at the Hotel Korsal.

The weather is quite warm and the crystal clear Adriatic is the perfect temperature - 68 degrees or so - for swimming.

Ursula and Ziva who look to be in their mid 30's have both lived in and led trips in exotic places (Ziva most recently in Nepal) around the world and speak about eight languages between them.

We had a brief tour of the old city this afternoon. The Church of St Peter dates from the 14th century. Like all of the ancient churches we have seen, it is quite ornate inside. Several other Churches in previous posts had up to six stations depicting stories from the bible on both sides of the sanctury. The pictures do not do them justice.

The Church of St Michael has a painting by Domenik Maggiotti - Our Lady of Consolation - from the 18th century.

In every town we have visited, We have been awed by the skill and knowledge of the ancient craftsman and the creativity of the artists.
