On to Dubrovnik

We drove from Trigir to Dubrovnik today. We took the ferry from Ploce to Trpanj, and stopped in Ston to look at the amazing ancient fortifications. Something like 5 km of walls were build around the mountainside.

No difficulties during the drive, even after the GPS stopped working. Thank goodness for the iPad - although at one point in the mountains it thought we were off-roading across the side of mountain!!

From Trpanj to Dubrovnik is wine country, with a winery at every turn in the winding road. We didn't stop, but figured if we had stopped at every winery and taken just a mouthful, we would have been unfit to drive after the first 2-3 km.

We spent the afternoon exploring old town in Dubrovnik. There is something spiritual about walking streets and exploring narrow alleys that have been lived in for 1,200+ years (with several reconstructions). Many of the residences are lived in today.

We found a wonderful vegetarian restaurant, Neshta, in one of the alleys for dinner. It was great to have tofu.

Thus ends our tour of Croatia.

Tomorrow we start the guided portion of our trip.
