Kayaking around the islands near Korcula

Today we kayaked with Ursula and Ziva around several of the islands near the old town on Korcula. The weather was perfect, slightly overcast, warm but not too hot, a little head wind on the way out and an easy paddle back.

We stopped to swim at one island, then paddled to another for a delicious picnic lunch prepared by our guides of tomato, cheese, arugula, olives, cucumber, peppers, dark bread, and fruit. We found the old Church and the lovely wild flowers walking around the island.

The island where we ate lunch had been a quarry for thousands of years, until about 20 years ago. Today, people from the mainland and surrounding larger islands have have converted many of the historic buildings into vacation homes. Most homes are made from stone, and all are surrounded by the most amazing stone walls.

On the way back we paddled past a Franciscan monetary that is being restored.
